While breast augmentation can create fuller breast volume and profile, that procedure alone may not give you the results you want. Sagging breasts and excess skin won’t be corrected with breast augmentation alone.
If you want to address breast ptosis and achieve improved breast shape, combining breast augmentation with a breast lift may be a better option for you. Many women choose to combine these plastic surgery procedures for a youthful-looking appearance.
In this blog, we’ll review the recovery process of a breast augmentation with a lift and what your breast implant options are.

Breast Implant Options When Combining a Breast Augmentation With a Breast Lift
The implant size and type can drastically change the appearance of your breasts. The implant type you choose depends on your goals, and Dr. Paydar can guide you through the decision-making process.
You may choose between two types of implants:
- Saline Implants: These implants are filled with a saline solution to the desired size. They feel firmer to the touch and are filled after the implant is inserted into the breast pocket, resulting in smaller incision scars.
- Silicone Implants: These implants are prefilled with silicone gel and feel closer to natural breast tissue than saline implants. Their cohesive gel helps maintain a more natural shape and feel, but they may require ultrasound or MRI screening to detect ruptures.
Deciding which implant you want may feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. At your initial consultation, you can discuss your ideal breast shape, and Dr. Paydar can decide which option best fits your goals.
Recovery Process of a Breast Augmentation With a Breast Lift
Combining procedures may lead to slightly longer recovery times. However, it combines them into one recovery period, so you only have to experience it once rather than once for each cosmetic procedure.
There is no set recovery time. While the recovery timeline varies for each patient depending on their own healing process, you may follow a similar timeline to the following:
Weeks 1 to 2
The first week is the most strenuous, and getting proper rest is the most crucial. Having help after your cosmetic surgery for the first 48 hours is important, especially if you have young children. This is when discomfort, bruising, and swelling peak.
You will be required to wear a compression garment or breast wrap, followed by a surgical bra after a few days. Light walking is encouraged as early as possible to support circulation and prevent blood clots, but avoid exercise of any kind.
By week two, you will start to feel a bit more like yourself. Light desk work may be resumed with Dr. Paydar’s clearance. Some swelling and bruising will persist, but discomfort will improve. Strenuous activity must still be avoided.
Weeks 3 to 5
By this time, you may feel well enough to return to light exercise and activities, which you may resume when Dr. Paydar clears you. Avoid chest exercises, even if you feel well enough to do them.
Some swelling may still be present but will continue to improve. Your scars may also begin to mature and flatten.
Weeks 6 to 8
By week six, you may resume regular exercise and activities. Attend all postoperative appointments and get clearance before returning to any strenuous activities. Residual swelling and bruising may occur, but continue to improve.
Week 8 and Beyond
Your breasts settle continuously for the next few months. Be gentle with your chest even if you feel fully recovered, as you are still healing internally.
If you experience any complications, contact your surgeon immediately. Communication with your surgeon is important for a smooth recovery.
