At Paydar Plastic Surgery in Orange County, Ca, we understand that our patients are not always born with their ideal nose, which can be a source of discomfort and self-consciousness. Fortunately, an effective procedure called rhinoplasty can improve the appearance and function of the nose.
Our expert rhinoplasty surgeon and reliable surgical team are committed to helping our patients achieve incredible and transformative results. However, before we can help you realize your vision, we understand that you may have questions about the procedure. One of the most recurring questions we hear is, “how old do you have to be for rhinoplasty?”
Below, we will explain rhinoplasty in more detail and why age may be a factor when planning a nose surgery procedure.
What Is a Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is the medical term for the surgical procedure that aims to reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or bridge, narrow or nostrils span, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It can also correct congenital disabilities or injuries and help relieve breathing problems due to a deviated septum. Rhinoplasty is a major surgery that requires extensive thought and planning with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon.
What Is the Best Age for Rhinoplasty?
There is no “best” age for a rhinoplasty procedure. However, there are some parameters that patients must meet to be considered for this treatment. Most rhinoplasty patients who schedule their rhinoplasty procedure are between the ages of 18 to 40. While this is regarded as the ideal age bracket in which patients can schedule their procedure, it doesn’t mean that patients over the age of 40 or under 18 cannot be considered for this procedure.
We encourage patients to be over 18 because the nose is still changing and settling into its form before 18. If we were to change the shape of the nose with a rhinoplasty, the changes to the nose as it grows could alter the rhinoplasty results. However, we understand and empathize with teenagers who want to change their noses or correct imperfections that result from genetics or were sustained from a sports or non-sport-related injury. If you are a teenager interested in nose surgery, have a parent or legal guardian schedule a consultation with Dr. Paydar to determine whether you are a good candidate for a teen rhinoplasty procedure.
For patients over 40 interested in a rhinoplasty, our biggest concerns are skin quality and overall health. Whether you qualify for this treatment will come down to your goals, your current health, your medical history, and your desire to undergo this surgical procedure.
